GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS SURVEY

The BFA Fairfax school board is taking some time this fall to examine our current graduation requirements.  Our goal is to ensure that our graduation requirements are aligned with the BFA Fairfax school mission: “BFA Fairfax is committed to ensuring all students become informed, literate critical thinkers who demonstrate responsible social and civic behaviors.”  As a part of the process we are inviting the community to provide input by taking a few minutes to complete an online survey.  The survey is located directly at:

DEPT OF ED FINAL DETERMINATION REPORT
BUS DROPOFF PROCEDURES GRADES K-8

In an effort to ensure the safety of students using the BFA Fairfax school buses the administration has determined that we need to clarify our expectations for bus drivers and parents/guardians regarding the transfer of the care of students under bus driver supervision to families.

Students K-3
The bus driver will transfer the care of students in grades K-3 and under into the care of an adult at the bus stop.  If there is no adult at the bus stop the driver will radio back to the school's main office and request the personnel in the office attempt to contact the student's parent/guardian to alert them the bus is attempting to drop the student off.  If this is not possible the driver will return the student to school where the parent/guardian will need to pick them up.
Students in grades 3 and under may be released from the care of the bus driver if they leave the bus with an older sibling or student designated by the parent.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRESS REPORTS

Middle school students will not be receiving Progress reports in the mail.
However, they are available on the Powerschool Parent Portal.
If you have trouble accessing the portal, please email cgraves@fwsu.org

ACT 1 INFORMATION

Act One: An Act Relating to Improving Vermont's Sexual Abuse System went in to effect July 1, 2011.  The legislative intent is to increase child sexual abuse prevention efforts.

Act One includes several new mandates for Vermont schools, including:
  1. Educating children about sexual abuse;
  2. Educating school staff about child sexual abuse;
  3. Informing parents about child sexual abuse.

The BFA Fairfax education community is committed to protecting students and has taken the following steps to meet the requirements of this law:

  • We are revising our comprehensive health curriculum for students around recognizing and preventing sexual abuse and violence.
  • On August 29, all adults employed in our school will receive orientation on the prevention, identification and reporting of child sexual abuse and sexual violence.
  • Parents/Guardians of Pre K-2 students are invited to attend an Act One Parent Night which will be scheduled in early October.
  • Finally, we will be offering opportunities for parents and guardians to receive information about child sexual abuse.
