FOUR WINDS a winning environmental education program. It is designed for elementary-
aged children and taught by parents and other community volunteers.
Four Winds is a non profit organization dedicated to providing community-based environmental education to students of all ages. We offer natural science programs that help children and adults gain background knowledge and science skills needed to understand the world around them. By offering workshops for adults to share with children, Four Winds creates a community of learners exploring nature together right in their own neighborhood.
Sound natural science instruction
Four Wind's programs involve each learner in exploring and investigating, making observations, asking questions, searching for answers, and making their own observations. We learn about the world around us through active exploration. Our natural science lessons for elementary school children directly support the Vermont grade expectations set by the Department Of Education.
Volunteers Make It All Happen
The Four Winds natural science workshops provide monthly two-hour trainings for adult volunteers interested in sharing their love of nature with elementary school children. Workshop topics range from stream life to fern design, from feathers and flight, to life inside a gall - each lesson relating to a broader natural history concept. Our workshops include informational presentations and indoor and outdoor hands-on activities that volunteers can then share with students in your school. Four Winds provides teaching materials for each lesson - puppet stencils, visual aids, various natural objects - to assist volunteers in the classroom.
