Greek Mythology and Creation Stories

Students will read, discuss and compare/contrast the stories of Earth’s creation from many sources.  Native American, Asian, Western, and Greek traditional myths will be considered, among others.

All of the myths will be introduced as being the belief system of a certain people/nation, but not as something the students should take as ‘fact’.  This is true of all the myths we will discuss, including the two creation stories from the Book of Genesis.  It is understood that for Jews and Christians, the Genesis story will carry much more religious significance than the other stories of creation.  The class will be taught with sensitivity for this.

Greek mythology will be our biggest focus during this unit, since its stories are the basis for many great works of literature, not to mention Jeopardy categories.

Thank you for you time, and please call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
