HABITATS and ECOSYSTEMS

For the 2006-2007 school year the theme for Four Winds is Habitats.

An animal's habitat is the community in which it lives.  A habitat can be likened to a home in a child's mind - a place in which food, water, shelter, and a place to have and raise young.

The topics for this year will be:

September:  Life in a Field - Exposed to the Elements

October:  Forest Floor - Home of the hidden workers

November:  Rotting Logs - Temporary homes on the forest floor.

January:  Animals in Winter - Many ways to cope with winter

February: Snug in the Snow - Snow is a welcome blanket for many

March:  White-tailed deer - Elusive beauty of Woods and Fields

April:  Streams - The Challenge of a moving watery world

May:  Ponds - Life in still water
