Warned: November 27, 2003
Adopted: December 8, 2003
Policy It is the policy of the District to provide a systematic referral process for any student suspected of having a disability and in need of special education services. The procedures for the special education referral process are as follows:
- Anyone concerned with the education of a student (including, but not limited to, the classroom teacher, principal, nurse, special educator, parent, etc.) has the responsibility to make a written referral for a special education evaluation if he or she suspects the existence of a handicapping condition interfering with the student’s academic achievement. Under appropriate circumstances, a verbal referral will be considered.
- All special education referrals are made to the Special Educator or principal who has the responsibility for appointing the Evaluation and Planning Team.
- Parents/Guardians will be notified of this referral and be included as members of the Team.
