BFA Fairfax: Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope!

On December 13, 2023, the BFA Middle School Student Leadership Committee joined together with the BFA Fairfax High School Students in hosting a food drive.  The students traveled to the Fairfax Community Center to sort the food that was brought in.

The Student Leadership Committee decided to help host this food drive to support local families during this holiday season. The food drive was in partnership with the High School National Honor Society. This collective food drive was also in partnership with Operation Happiness, which is a program that helps support local families in need of food and household items.

Throughout the food drive season, middle school leadership committee students understood the hunger that takes place in a small community, which they then taught to their peers in Advisory. SLC students presented a slideshow about food insecurities to their peers.  Students collected, sorted and organized the collection of food at the Fairfax Community Center.

The drive was a success and will be donated to over 45 families in the Fairfax community.

The middle school leadership committee also takes part in planning fun activities for the middle school.  This year, they have organized a spirit week, 7th and 8th grade dance, and are hosting a door decorating contest this month.  They’re also taking part in other fundraising activities, hosting a dance for 5th and 6th grade, and hosting a coffee house in April for middle school students.

We want to highlight a couple of middle school advisories that did an amazing job supporting this project.  Thank you to Allison Couture and Jerry Bailey’s  6th grade advisory classes for bringing in over 500 food items!  A HUGE shout out to Allison Couture’s 5th grade advisory class with a total of 292 food items!

Thank you, for your support and kindness!
