Anna Sargent Selected as VSADA and NIAAA Top Scholar-Athlete

Each year the Vermont State Athletic Directors Association (VSADA), in coordination with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), awards ten scholarships to senior student-athletes in Vermont. These scholarships “recognize the distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life” (NIAAA, 2021).

BFA Fairfax senior Anna Sargent was recognized as a recipient of this prestigious honor in front of over three hundred attendees at an awards banquet held on Monday, November 7 at the Doubletree Burlington Hotel and Conference Center. The scholarship banquet was a highlight event of the annual VSADA Athletic Leadership Conference, at which four of BFA Fairfax’s own student athlete leaders were in attendance.

In addition to her academic accolades and athletic talents, Anna stood out among the recipients through her high level of commitment to climate awareness, social justice, and scientific research.

As part of the scholarship application process, Anna was required to submit an essay on the impact of high school athletics on her life. In her essay he shared:

“High school athletics has pushed me to confront my need to do everything myself, and has let me witness the benefits of adapting and accepting help from others. Going to my parents for advice about friends or college doesn’t add worry to their lives. Two sources of ideas is always more helpful than one when working on a group project. And passing to teammates up the field always moves the ball faster than dribbling it up yourself.”

BFA Fairfax is extremely proud of Anna, and we congratulate her on this well-deserved award and honor. More importantly, we are excited to see the numerous successes she will undoubtedly experience in the future.  Congratulations!
